Proper Care For Your Pearl Jewelry

There simply is nothing you can compare to the luster that pearl jewelry has. Whether you have some pearl earrings or a pearl necklace, they have a glow that just yearns to be admired. Now, whether you bought your own pearl jewelry or received one as a gift, you need to know that it is very important to take good care of it so that you would be able to use it for a long time.
If you would be comparing pearls to diamonds, pearls are a lot softer. And so, pearls need special care. Unlike pearls, diamonds have basically been compacted for millions of years deep in the earth while pearls are made and cultivated in oysters' shells. Oysters are the ones that produce the pearl's nacre, which gives it a luminous glow. So pearls do not have the hardness and compactness that diamonds possess.

Remember that you should not wear your pearl jewelry everywhere you go in everything that you do, particularly when you are engaging in physical activity like working out in the gym or planting in the yard. This is because the perspiration and dirt would just shorten the life of pearl jewelry. So, although pearls are generally made in the ocean, it does not follow that it would be fine to wear them as you go scuba diving, swimming or surfing. You should know that pearls are sensitive to elements so you must not show them off all the time.

Also, certain chemicals in perfumes, hairsprays and lotions can damage pearl jewelry. These chemicals could shorten the life of pearl jewelry. So it would be best to wear your pearl jewelry after you have done everything - like you have already put lotion on, have sprayed your perfume on, etc. so that the amount of their exposure to these chemicals would be limited.

And similar to other kinds of jewelry, pearl jewelry will get dirty over time. You could clean them by yourself with the use of a slightly damp soft and clean cloth. Do not use any scrubbing device such as a toothbrush or a sponge, as well as any soap or detergent.

Prom Jewelry

Yes, I realize it is still May, but when you're a teenage girl preparing for her first prom, there is no such thing as too early! In fact, I remember making prom my own personal hobby as a high schooler! It can be such a fun time figuring out your perfect dress, perfect shoes, accessories, hairstyle, purse, and oh my gosh! There is so much to do, you should have started months ago!

Of course I'm kidding and you have plenty of time, but it never hurts to start preparing early for prom. Especially because the savvy-shopper can often find tremendous deals you won't ever see if you wait until the last minute to get organized. Plus, it's always fun to peruse style magazines and websites to find what the latest trends are for prom. Not to mention the fact that prom provides endless hours of conversation for adolescent gals all around, while you drive others around you absolutely bonkers!

Some girls like to go all out with tiaras and sparkling jewels (otherwise known as "bling"), while others are a touch more sedate and like to stick with simple pendants and stud earrings. As I always recommend in any situation -- if you are going to wear a lovely pair of large chandelier earrings, keep the rest of the jewelry simple, so as not to overdo it. Besides, the main attraction of the evening should be your gorgeous gown!

Here are some prom accessory tips...

I don't recommend the tiara at all, to be honest. I think it is tacky and not all that attractive. But if tiaras are your thing, then go for it, who am I to stop you?

Another classic item is the jewelry set. You really can't go wrong with a tastefully-chosen necklace and earrings set, and they generally stay within the bounds of a normal gal's budget.
If you want to look like a celebrity, check out the 2008 Grammy Awards' photographs, where cuff bracelets were the rage. You can find cuff alternatives that won't cost you a fortune at most online jewelry retailers that offer fashion jewelry substitutes.

My advice to you, prom diva, is to find jewelry that best complements your dress. For instance, if your dress is a deep, solid color, like blue, green, purple, or red - try matching it with gold bangles, gold hoop earrings, and skip the necklace! If your dress already has some sparkle, match it with a complementary gold or silver, but keep it simple! If you are going for the boho-chic effect, get a little crazy and find some unique jewelry that incorporates leather or feathers!
Never wear a big necklace if your dress already has a ton of sparkle near the neckline.

And most importantly, remember to let your personality shine! Don't be shy, it's your night to dress like a rockstar - just be certain not to behave like one, we wouldn't want you getting suspended!

Diamonds - Again A Girl's Best Friend

Diamonds and gemstones have been of high value since people noticed they sparkled, and men would fight for the right to present this rare gift to the woman in the tribe he and they all most adored. This was an often repeated heroic theme through the ages.

He in love wants to show up at her door with flowers and diamonds. Alas in youth his pockets are near empty. And then as war torn Africa became infamous for blood money exchanging stolen diamonds many women recoiled, as they have done against the cruelty of animals to supply them with furs.

However in this past decade another major phenomena has happened, and it again separates generations. Now my grand daughters are part of this new more aware and independent thinkers than their mothers or grand mothers, and they have discovered the net and auctions.
And as they have learned in school that a grand new flood of clean pure diamonds from the new discoveries in the north of Canada are allowing them to rejoice at their investment on the net in a new Polar Bear Diamond of their very own collection.

If at these prices they build a collection, they could get them appraised and one day have a deposit on their own condo. Their mothers shake their heads and watch in amazement, as my daughters tell me they now do. There are now some cute real live nice ladies learning independence and planning and investing wisely.

They have a plan of attack, which when you think they never listen, you are some times hear your boring words of advise come out original, pure and clean from an intelligent grand daughter. And when you find this happening you must be quiet and nod understandingly at her discoveries and admire her deeply for her wisdom, and tell her so.

The young ladies gather around the new computer I presented grand daughter Katie for graduating. They go into several sites. There are plenty of admiring comments, and amazed squeals of delight at the low bid auction prices of some precious diamonds and gemstones.
Then, they are off down into town and several malls, where they share one of those high priced cups of coffee, and they walk the mall and check the prices in each jewelry and department store. They giggle, and whisper loud enough to be heard saying these prices are too much!
They laugh their way on home, and go back into the computer. They look over the pages of choices between diamonds beyond price for now, and those that are low for the bidding. They bid, they go their ways, they return, they check around some more.

And I notice the differing life paths my two grandsons and two grand daughters are moving towards. My oldest grandson is 22 and works in the oil fields of Alberta where he is now a foreman: he misses us and drives the thousand miles home to visit often. His younger brother worked with me in construction and is now working to earn his ticket.

The boys spend much time on computers but in different ways than their sisters. They argue and look up facts about cars, maps of the oil fields and where the next project is about to open up. The sites of the largest machines on earth chewing through cliffsides of oily sand.

Meanwhile, the girls have heard about the vast new diamond fields far to the north of the oil fields and that there are occasional excess diamond sales on the net. They have more fun at home around their computers, sipping herbal teas and telling gossip about whoever did not come along.

But with part time job money while they go beyond high school, they now invest in a valuable sales bargain. Katie has a plan, the boys spend each pay check.

And with the wide vast net they know they can afford some gem that they will have either forever, or until some local friends absolutely loves it so much she will pay way more, and then still less than that version at the mall.

And my young grand daughter has some thriving thoughts in her mind. She knows about buy low and sell high and investing as opposed to consuming. So diamonds are forever. And they should also be for she who earns and deserves.

What is a Diamond?

Diamond name comes from the ancient Greek word adamas, which means invincible. It is the hardest known natural material in the world.
Diamonds hardness and high dispersion of light make it useful for diamond rings, diamond earrings, diamond pendants, diamond necklaces, and diamond bracelets.
Diamond is treasured as gemstone since it's use as religious icons in India at least 2,500 years ago.

Diamond can only be scratched by other diamonds, it maintains its polish extremely well and keeps its luster over long periods of time.

These qualities make it a well-suited ornament to daily wear. It is widely preferred gem in diamond rings, diamond earrings, diamond pendants, diamond necklaces, and diamond bracelets.

Diamond is commonly judged for it's qualities by the four Cs, that are carat, clarity, color, and cut. Nearly half of all diamonds originate from central and southern Africa, however significant sources of diamond have been discovered in Canada, India, Russia, Brazil, and Australia also.

Diamond can be found in nearly any color, however yellow and brown color diamonds are most common. Colored diamonds contain impurities or structural defects that accounts for their color, while pure or nearly pure diamonds are transparent and colorless.

Diamonds that are brought to the Earth's surface by magma in a volcanic pipe can erode out and be dispersed over a very large area. A primary source of diamonds is the term used to describe a volcanic pipe containing diamonds. A secondary source occurs where a number of diamonds accumulate due to the activity of water or weather. Diamonds have been found in glacial deposits, yet are not found in large numbers, and are not considered a potential commercial source of the gem. It is also possible for diamonds to be forced to the surface after two continental plates collide, although it is rare.
